Legislation
Ontario was the first province in Canada to introduce a registry for lobbyists. Read the Lobbyists Registration Act, 1998.
Some lobbyists may be required to submit an attestation under the Broader Public Sector Accountability Act, 2010. For information on this, see Interpretation Bulletin #4 "Can my client pay me with public money?"
Types of Lobbyists
There are three types of lobbyists under the Lobbyists Registration Act, 1998. The rules and requirements differ, depending on the type. Learn about the types here.
Guide to the Lobbyists Registration Act
The Guide to the Lobbyists Registration Act covers all steps in the registration process.
Checklists
The Office has created two types of checklists for all three types of lobbyists. Registration Checklists can be used when completing registration, while Compliance Checklists cover timelines and information about keeping registrations current and compliant with the Act. Checklists are available here.
Lobbying Activity
The Lobbying Activity section of a registration requires clear and complete information. Find out how to meet this requirement with our resource on Lobbying Activity.
Changes to Lobbying Target Names
Lobbyists are responsible for ensuring that the lobbying targets in their registrations are updated following a cabinet shuffle or any changes to ministerial titles and ministry names. To assist lobbyists in keeping registrations up to date, the Office has a page that shows the previous and the new lobbying target names.
